The staff at the El Pueblo Lodge were super friendly and they recommended a handful of places for happy hour, beers and dinner. Everything was in walking distance, too. I struggled on the ride as all I could think about was happy hour margaritas. It was between TreeHouse Bar & Lounge at Lamberts and the Adobe Bar at the Historic Taos Inn.
The bars were fairly close to each other and we decided to turn right and try Lamberts. We loved the space and we met really nice people that vacation in Taos all the time. They were a cute couple from Wyoming celebrating their 52 wedding anniversary that evening. They too, gave us recommendations on where to eat and drink. They said we chose the better margarita happy hour as the Adobe Bar has music and gets loud. The TreeHouse Bar and Lounge was low key and definitely not loud as we sat in the lounge. The bar was beautiful but there was a group of people reconnecting and they were loud - but that was nothing. We had our margaritas and an amazing smoked trout deviled eggs (pickled jalapenos, organic eggs, house smoked trout).
The couple recommended the burger place across the street from our hotel just like the El Pueblo staff did. The Burger Stand at the Taos Ale House. Burgers were amazing and their homemade sauces tasty with the fries and burgers. Chili dip, garlic aoili, avocado ranch and marshmallow sauces. Loved the sauces except the marshmallow. I just wanted to try it and it was certainly marshmallow. Brad had a Kobe cheddar burger and I had the spicy shiitake burger with chili lime fries. No Belgians on tap so I had the Santa Fe Adobe Igloo (tasted like a brown ale) and Brad had the Marble IPA. Then I had a half pint of the Santa Fe State Pen Porter.
We had a wonderful day in Taos and ended the evening in the outdoor hot tub and was in bed by 8:00 p.m. Thank goodness we are not totally on East Coast time or we would be in bed by 6:00 p.m. I usually stay up a couple hours after Brad editing pictures and writing these posts. But we both wake up at 5:35 a.m. without an alarm ready for another journey unless we roll over for another hour of shut eye.
